My carving journey began in 2002 at the Stone Studio in Gisborne. I was given the opportunity to get involved and I am so glad that I took up the challenge as it has developed into an absolute passion. I enjoy all the different aspects that are involved in the carving process, such as knowing where the stone has come from and learning more about the history of carving in Aotearoa. I enjoy looking and 'pondering' on each piece of stone before I carve into it, so that I can create a design that I think is best for that particular piece of stone. Nothing is better than creating a piece that someone is so stoked on and just loves to bits. Each stone is so unique and very special and I feel extremely privileged to be able to work with it. I am lucky that I have a great support network of family and friends that help and encourage me, they assist with ideas and provide me with honest feedback about particular carvings. I am grateful for this as it helps me to keep developing and improving the 'flow' aspect within my carvings. |
